Over Rs21 Million in Traffic Fines Dangle in Islamabad’s Safe City

It looks like Islamabad’s Safe City initiative has left a staggering Rs21 million in traffic fines hanging in the air, and it’s all down to the lack of a proper recovery system. This eyebrow-raising information comes from a recent audit conducted by the Auditor General of Pakistan (AGP).

According to the findings, during the last financial year, Safe City Islamabad dished out a whopping 47,730 electronic traffic tickets — known as e-challans — amounting to a total of Rs30.94 million. However, despite issuing these fines, the project has only managed to collect Rs9.84 million so far.

This situation raises some serious questions about the efficiency of the recovery processes in place. With millions left uncollected, it’s clear that there’s a need for the authorities to step up their game and ensure that traffic laws are upheld effectively. After all, responsible driving should come with its share of accountability!
