The Real Reason Edward Kenway Lost His Signature Moves in AC Black Flag Resynced

Hey PakGamers! Who here remembers the sheer joy of sailing the high seas as Edward Kenway in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag? That game was, and still is, a masterpiece for many of us. So, when news of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced dropped, there was a lot of excitement, but also a few questions, especially regarding the combat.

One of the biggest talking points among fans was how Edward’s fighting style felt a bit different in the Resynced version. Many noticed the absence of some of his most beloved, intricate moves, like certain hidden blade flourishes and the wide variety of weapon-specific takedowns that made the original so satisfying. The director behind Black Flag Resynced, Richard Knight, recently shed some light on why these changes were made.

For those who jumped into Resynced, you might have noticed a more structured combat system. Enemies now come with visible health and defense bars, meaning you often have to break their guard before you can start dealing proper damage. The legendary counter chain-kill system, which let us clear entire groups of enemies with almost comical ease in the original, also got a significant overhaul. Plus, the vast array of weapons Edward could use, from muskets to those quick hidden daggers, seemed to take a backseat in favor of his dual cutlasses.

So, what was the thinking behind this? Knight explained that during the development of Resynced, the team had to make some tough choices. He mentioned that Edward Kenway, even without these specific moves, was already incredibly powerful and had a vast arsenal at his disposal. For the team, the priority was always to perfect the core combat experience.

“Things like throwing weapons, while undeniably cool, felt less critical when Edward already had so many effective ways to take down enemies,” Knight elaborated. He explained that reinventing and rebuilding these features from scratch, incorporating modern character models, rigs, and animations, was a significant undertaking. Ultimately, it simply fell lower on their list of development priorities.

However, it’s not all grim news for those hoping to see these classic moves return. Knight did assure the community that the development team is actively listening to player feedback. While he couldn’t make any concrete promises, he did state that they are very interested in what the community wants most. So, keep those voices heard!

Despite these combat tweaks, Black Flag Resynced has been a massive success story for Ubisoft. It received high praise from fans and proved to be an incredibly profitable venture, raking in a cool $1 (approx. Rs 280) million from its day-one DLC sales on Steam alone, hot on the heels of selling two million copies on its launch day. This shows that even with changes, the allure of Edward Kenway’s swashbuckling adventure remains as strong as ever.

What are your thoughts on the combat changes in Black Flag Resynced? Did you miss Edward’s hidden blade moves, or did you enjoy the new approach?
