Sony Set to Shell Out $7.8 Million for PlayStation Refunds After Lawsuit Approval

Good news for PlayStation fans! If you’ve been making digital purchases on the PSN, you might be in line for some cash back. A California judge has just given a thumbs-up for a class action lawsuit settlement that could see Sony coughing up a hefty $7.85 million.

This legal drama revolves around the case known as Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, where Sony was accused of breaking federal antitrust laws. The claims suggest that the company has been stifling competition and monopolizing the digital game market, which ultimately led to higher prices for gamers.

So, who qualifies for these refunds? If you bought any digital game through the PlayStation Store between April 1, 2019, and December 31, 2023, and that game was also available via a retail voucher, you might be eligible. The best part? If you have an active PSN account, you’re automatically included in the settlement.

According to the settlement details, which were laid out in a filing dated April 8, 2026, those eligible will receive compensation in the form of PlayStation Network account credits—essentially cash value for your PSN wallet.

If you’ve been inactive on your PSN account, don’t worry! You can still get your share. Just reach out to the number provided on the settlement website or send your details via mail to get your compensation, which will be equivalent to the PSN credits.

There’s a wide range of titles included in the eligibility list, boasting over 100 games. Notable mentions include classics like the God of War Collection, Until Dawn, The Last of Us, and many others. If you’re curious about the entire list, it’s available for you to check out.

Recently, Sony faced some backlash from fans who noticed a new DRM timer linked to online purchases, sparking concerns about their gaming rights. However, PlayStation has since reassured its users, clarifying that these checks were only a temporary measure.

Stay tuned, gamers! This settlement could mean some extra credit in your PSN wallet soon.
