Steam Machine Launch on the Horizon? Valve’s Mysterious Shipments Spark Excitement

This week, there’s buzz in the gaming community as Valve has rolled out the Steam Controller, even though it was initially supposed to launch alongside the Steam Machine and Steam Frame. Now, it seems Valve is ramping up its shipments of mysterious ‘game consoles’—could we be on the verge of the Steam Machine finally hitting the market?

The speculation kicked off thanks to a Twitter user, Brad Lynch (@SadlyitsBradley), who spotted a surge in imports to Valve’s USA distribution center via NBD Data, a shipping analysis tool. Over the past few weeks, Valve has received a considerable number of shipments labeled as ‘game consoles’ from China, leading many to wonder if a release is just around the corner.

However, it’s essential to note that these shipments may just be part of a massive restock of the Steam Deck. The handheld has been out of stock for quite some time, and a replenishment is definitely due. Even though some of the shipments Lynch observed are a tad older, the Steam Deck remains elusive on Valve’s storefront. Given our recent chats with Valve, they don’t seem keen on unveiling a new handheld just yet, which makes the Steam Machine theory more plausible.

That said, let’s keep our expectations in check. While a flurry of console shipments looks promising, we won’t know for sure if these are indeed the fabled Steam Machines until Valve gives us the official word. According to reports, the scale of these shipments suggests something significant is brewing.

Valve has been postponing the Steam Machine’s launch all year, primarily due to skyrocketing RAM prices. If they were waiting for the market to stabilize, it seems we’re still in a tricky spot. A 16GB RAM kit is still hovering around $250 on Amazon, so we’re not quite out of the woods yet.

Should Valve be gearing up to ship the Steam Machine now, one can’t help but wonder if they’ve snagged a great deal on memory, or if they’re simply set to launch at a higher price point. When we inquired about their strategy regarding memory pricing, Valve engineer Pierre-Loup Griffais mentioned that they are keeping their options open and collaborating with various manufacturers. It’s a smart move considering the current landscape, allowing them to work with both major players and smaller companies alike.

Only time will tell what’s cooking at Valve, but one thing’s for sure: gamers are keeping a close eye on any developments!
