Forza Horizon 6: Why Japan’s Sacred Sights and Cherry Blossoms Are Unsmashable!
Bhai log, get ready to fire up your engines because Forza Horizon 6 is taking us on an epic journey to Japan! Imagine cruising through the bustling streets of Tokyo, tearing down scenic country roads, and soaking in the beauty of all four seasons in a game world that’s both incredibly detailed and beautifully stylized. And of course, what’s Forza without a bit of mayhem? Smashing your ride into other cars or roadside objects for some sweet experience points is always part of the fun, right?
But hold on to your steering wheels, because while most things in this upcoming racer are fair game for destruction, there are some very special exceptions. The game’s design director, Torben Ellert, recently spilled the beans: culturally important elements like Japan’s ancient shrines, serene temples, and iconic cherry blossom trees are completely indestructible. Yep, no smashing through these, no matter how wild your driving gets!
Ellert explained that while nearly all other trees in the game can be smashed to keep the open world traversal exciting, cherry blossom trees are a no-go. Why? Because they’re a huge part of Japanese culture, symbolizing everything from new beginnings and spring to the delicate, fleeting nature of life itself. Historically, farmers would hold feasts under these trees, and even emperors threw parties to admire their beauty – a tradition that continues today with modern ‘hanami’ (cherry blossom viewing) picnics. In real life, these beautiful trees are cherished and protected, with tampering often leading to hefty fines.
It’s a similar story for shrines and temples. The developers at Playground Games made a conscious decision to ensure players can’t drive through these sacred locations. This move shows serious cultural sensitivity, especially after a certain other big title, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, faced some backlash for initially showing destructible shrines in its previews. That game later released a patch to make them invincible, showing how important this detail is to players and cultural observers alike.
It’s clear the team behind Forza Horizon 6 isn’t taking this setting lightly. Japan has been a dream location for a Forza game for ages, but the devs wanted to get it just right. They dove deep into extensive research, even bringing in experts like cultural consultant Kyoko Yamashita to advise on how to accurately and respectfully depict Japan’s diverse culture and vibrant racing scene. As Ellert put it, they actively sought “course correction” to make sure they weren’t just relying on surface-level understanding.
So, get ready to experience Japan like never before in Forza Horizon 6. While those who pre-ordered the premium edition might already be burning rubber, the official release for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC is just around the corner on May 19th. We can’t wait to explore this amazing world responsibly!
