Modern Warfare 4 Tweaks Skill-Based Matchmaking for a Better Experience

Looks like Infinity Ward is taking a thoughtful approach towards the skill-based matchmaking in the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, especially after the mixed reactions to Black Ops 7. The developers recently shared that they won’t just ditch everything from Black Ops 7 and revert to old methods. Instead, they’re carefully analyzing player feedback and data from last year’s title to guide their decisions.

While Black Ops 7 didn’t hit the mark commercially and left some fans divided, there were a few positive changes that players hope will carry over into Modern Warfare 4. Many were concerned that the backlash from Black Ops 7 might lead to a complete rollback, but it seems that’s not going to happen. Treyarch made strides in listening to community concerns regarding the matchmaking system, which has often been a source of frustration. Gamers found that after a few good matches, they were thrown into lobbies with players far above their skill level, making for an uneven gaming experience.

One of the major improvements in Black Ops 7 was the introduction of persistent lobbies and a matchmaking system that didn’t solely focus on skill levels. Players appreciated the more varied matchups, feeling this made the multiplayer experience fairer and more enjoyable. As for what Modern Warfare 4 will implement, it appears Infinity Ward is taking notes from Treyarch’s efforts, which is a shift from previous perceptions that they weren’t as responsive to player feedback.

We recently got our hands on the multiplayer mode of Modern Warfare 4, and the early impressions are promising! No more annoying weapon bloom, smoother character movement, and more precise gunplay make it feel like a significant upgrade over past titles. The game is also no longer limited by older consoles, allowing for a more expansive and engaging experience.

“Modern Warfare 4 feels like a confident step forward for the series,” one preview stated, noting that while it doesn’t drastically change the essence of Call of Duty, it finally seems to embrace its full potential without being bogged down by restrictions. This makes it one of the more exciting entries in the franchise in a while.

Mark your calendars because Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is set to launch on October 23 for Xbox Series X|S, PS5, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC. The game promises to take players on a global journey centered around the conflict between North and South Korea, with the iconic Captain Price making his return, albeit at odds with his Task Force 141 allies. Plus, fans can look forward to the return of the DMZ extraction mode and, of course, Warzone, though it won’t be available on last-gen consoles this fall.
