MSI’s New AI Gaming Monitor: Are We Finally Getting a Feature We Actually Want?
Salam fellow gamers! AI is everywhere these days, right? From our smartphones to our PCs, it feels like every other gadget is getting an ‘AI-powered’ upgrade. And guess what? Gaming monitors are next on the list, with MSI leading the charge at the recent Computex event.
Among the sea of new tech, MSI pulled the wraps off something they’re calling the “world’s first agentic AI monitor” – the MEG X. Now, before you roll your eyes thinking it’s just another marketing gimmick, hear us out. This 34-inch beast, priced around $159 (approx. Rs 44,520)9, might just have one trick up its sleeve that could genuinely change how we interact with our screens.
Picture this: you’re deep into a competitive match, and suddenly your brightness feels off, or you wish you had an on-screen crosshair. Instead of fumbling with those infuriating physical buttons or diving into an endless OSD (On-Screen Display) menu, you simply *talk* to your monitor. Yes, you heard that right! The MEG X promises voice command functionality to tweak settings like brightness or enable game assists on the fly. For anyone who’s ever battled a clunky monitor menu, this sounds like a dream come true.
MSI’s vision even includes a cartoon dragon assistant, “LuckyClaw,” that you can chat with to make these changes. While the idea of a talkative digital pet might not be everyone’s cup of tea, the underlying tech is pretty smart. It uses an internal microcontroller, allowing seamless adjustments from within Windows, now integrated with AI software for verbal commands. Imagine ditching the confusing joystick or unlabelled buttons for good!
Beyond the AI magic, the MEG X packs some serious hardware. We’re talking a stunning 34-inch 5th-Gen QD-OLED panel, delivering a blazing 3440×1440 (UWQHD) resolution at an insane 360Hz refresh rate with a lightning-fast 0.03ms response time. It also boasts MSI’s exclusive AI Care Sensor for OLED protection, Penta Tandem technology for brighter visuals, and DarkArmor Film for deeper blacks and better scratch resistance. Connectivity is robust too, with HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 2.1a, and a Type-C with 98W Power Delivery.
Of course, it wouldn’t be an AI monitor without a bunch of other ‘AI’ features. We’re looking at AI Super Resolution (though apparently not as powerful as DLSS or FSR), AI Gauge, AI Scene, AI Audio Scene, and AI Vision+. There’s even a scope upscaler and a light bar that indicates audio channels (though they warn against using it for gaming – fair play, that’s borderline cheating!). While some of these might feel like AI for AI’s sake, that voice control feature truly stands out.
The MEG X is slated to hit shelves around August 5th. While the voice command feature wasn’t fully demoed on the MEG X itself at the event, a similar “OpenClaw” interface was seen working smoothly on the existing MSI MPG 341CQR QD-OLED X36. So, is an ‘AI monitor’ genuinely something we need? For $159 (approx. Rs 44,520)9, it’s a hefty investment for our Pakistani gaming community. But if MSI can refine that voice control – maybe without the overly enthusiastic dragon – and make it a standard, user-friendly feature, then perhaps, just perhaps, AI monitors might not be such a bad idea after all. What do you guys think? Would you talk to your monitor?
