Alan Wake 2 Shines on RTX Spark: A Glimpse of the Future of Gaming

Hey gamers! Exciting news is brewing in the gaming world as Alan Wake 2 makes its debut on Nvidia’s latest tech marvel, the RTX Spark. While gaming is just one piece of the RTX Spark puzzle, it’s clear that it’s not being overlooked. Nvidia’s developer relations team has teamed up with Remedy to craft a fully native version of the visually stunning Alan Wake 2, optimized to run beautifully on this new hardware.

Recently, I had the chance to check out this native Arm build of Alan Wake 2 on a pre-release Microsoft Surface Laptop Ultra. Although I couldn’t dive into the settings due to strict demo protocols, I was impressed. The game ran smoothly, boasting impressive graphics without the irritating text smearing or input lag that can plague less optimized setups. It’s clear that some level of frame generation is at play here to achieve the stunning 2560 x 1600 resolution, but it’s all done so seamlessly that you hardly notice it.

Microsoft and Nvidia have been on this journey for about three years, crafting the perfect combination of hardware and software. Remedy has also had plenty of time to polish the game for this native Arm version, though Nvidia isn’t spilling the beans on exactly how long that process took.

During my time with the RTX Spark laptops and desktops, I dabbled in some other games like Indiana Jones and the Great Circle and Pragmata. These weren’t just beta versions; I was playing the actual games right off Steam on the powerful 64 GB models. Jo Vivoli from Nvidia’s tech marketing emphasized the commitment to ensuring that whether through emulation or native builds, developers will receive the support needed to deliver an optimal gaming experience.

A Microsoft engineer echoed this sentiment, highlighting the extensive effort that both companies have invested in making gaming a true joy on the RTX Spark. As I fumbled through Pragmata, I realized that while the game performed flawlessly, my gaming skills left much to be desired. But hey, that’s all part of the fun!

Now, while this all sounds fantastic, it’s worth noting that not every game might replicate this experience. There’s a massive library of titles on PC, and it’s likely some will encounter issues. However, Microsoft is laser-focused on ensuring the top 200 most popular games and creative applications are ready for launch.

It’s intriguing that in this demo, there was no sign of Cyberpunk 2077. Many are wondering if it will be ready in time. From what I gathered, they’re optimistic, but we’ll have to wait and see this autumn!
