Subnautica 2 Promises Exciting New Updates and Scary Adventures Ahead
After wrapping up a whirlwind of legal drama, Subnautica 2 has made a splash with its early-access launch. While there’s still a bit of polishing to do, the team at Unknown Worlds has unveiled some thrilling plans for future updates that will enhance the gaming experience.
In a recent video update, the design lead, Anthony Gallegos, shared a sneak peek of what’s on the horizon. One of the most exciting additions is a brand-new region that serves as the dwelling of the Collector Leviathan. This update promises to reintroduce a highly requested gameplay feature, alongside new creatures and resources to discover. Gallegos hinted at the intensity of this upcoming content, stating, “I really think it’s going to be the scariest the game has been yet, and I can’t wait for you to try it.”
In the wake of recent hotfixes, the developers are also working on some smaller updates to enhance gameplay. One of the most anticipated features is proximity voice chat, which will be rolling out as soon as they can manage it. Players can look forward to earlier access to new Biomod options and the ability to unlock additional passive slots as they progress.
Gallegos also pointed out that players should find it easier to encounter Blight situations, thanks to adjustments that increase the aggressiveness of those pesky parasites. Additionally, the team is working on allowing players to replay their PDA voice logs, making it easier to piece together the game’s lore.
Since its launch, Subnautica 2 has managed to sell a whopping 4 million copies across Xbox Series X|S and PC, not even counting those who accessed it via Game Pass. However, it’s worth noting that the game is not yet available on PlayStation 5, and there’s still no word on whether it will ever support cross-platform play. For those eager to dive deeper, the early-access phase is expected to last around three years, giving developers ample time to refine and expand this oceanic adventure.
