Jason Momoa’s Lobo Dream: Only If It’s R-Rated!
Jason Momoa is setting the stage for his long-desired Lobo solo film, but there’s a catch: it needs to be rated R! Later this month, he’ll make his debut as the iconic character in the upcoming Supergirl movie where Lobo will play a supporting role. For Momoa, this moment is the realization of a dream he’s had for years. In fact, when he first landed the role of Aquaman over a decade ago, he thought he was actually going to be cast as Lobo!
After the last DC leadership changed and threw existing plans into disarray, DC Studios head James Gunn came calling, asking Momoa if he’d be interested in stepping into Lobo’s boots. And just like that, the wheels are in motion. Fans are naturally buzzing about what’s next for this brutal anti-hero. In a chat with ComicBook.com, Momoa revealed that there’s a long-term vision for Lobo, similar to how Aquaman was gradually introduced before getting his own film.
However, he made one thing crystal clear during his conversation with Collider: “I’m not doing a solo Lobo movie unless it’s rated R.” He emphasized, “It’s all I want, and I have zero interest in a PG-13 version.” If the opportunity arises to feature in other films, he’s game, but a standalone film must have that R rating.
Luckily, this isn’t just a wild request. The success of R-rated superhero flicks like Deadpool, Joker, and Logan has paved the way for more mature content in the genre. Plus, DC Studios is already working on an R-rated project with Clayface, a horror-themed spin-off from Batman that promises to be quite intense. If there’s enough demand for Lobo, it’s tough to see DC turning him down.
With a focus on creator-driven projects rather than studio mandates, it seems there’s hope for the right story to emerge for Lobo’s big screen adventure. Should it happen, fans can expect a film packed with action, chaos, and plenty of colorful language!
