GameStop’s Pro Membership Tweaks: Is It Time to Say Goodbye to Pro Points?
GameStop has been making headlines lately, particularly after announcing it had achieved record profits in the first quarter of its latest fiscal year. However, it seems the gaming retailer is now looking to tighten its belt with some surprising alterations to its Pro Membership rewards program.
According to sources, starting July 15, new members of GameStop’s Pro program will no longer earn Pro Points, which have long been a favorite perk for loyal customers. For those already enjoying the benefits, there’s just a short grace period until August 15, after which current members will also stop accumulating these points.
Previously, GameStop Pro members could earn about 2% of their purchases back in the form of Pro Points, allowing them to snag games and merchandise down the line. This change has sparked outrage among some GameStop staff, who are voicing their discontent on platforms like Reddit. A few employees are even suggesting a boycott on upselling the Pro Membership, indicating that they’re not thrilled with this new direction.
Meanwhile, GameStop’s CEO Ryan Cohen has been in the spotlight for his ambitious plans to acquire eBay, despite his company’s financial capabilities being stretched thin. eBay has already dismissed Cohen’s attempts, labeling them as neither “credible nor attractive.” While Cohen might consider making a move directly to eBay’s shareholders, he hasn’t taken that step yet.
As the dust settles on these developments, GameStop customers are left wondering what the future holds for their beloved rewards program.
