Affordable Gaming PC Alternatives?

I have to say, it's refreshing to see a retailer like LDLC stepping up to fill the gap that Valve's Steam Machine left behind. The 'Stim Machine'—or rather, the LDLC PC box—offering a 500 GB setup for under a grand is a bold move, especially given how insane the prices have been for gaming PCs lately. Sure, the specs aren’t groundbreaking, but for someone trying to get into PC gaming without breaking the bank, this option is appealing.
That being said, even at around €1,000, it's still a hefty sum for what you're getting, especially in today's market. It makes you think about whether it's worth maxing out your credit card or just sticking with good old consoles for a while longer. I mean, some of us still dream about rocking a solid gaming rig, but watching the prices creeping up leaves a sour taste.
