Apparently, the team behind the game seriously considered Jon Hamm, the legendary Don Draper from Mad Men, for the main role of Cole Phelps! They ultimately decided against it, choosing Aaron Staton instead, because they felt Hamm's commanding presence wouldn't fit Phelps' more fragile and often clueless personality, suggesting he'd be better as Jack Kelso. Honestly, while Jon Hamm is an incredible actor, I can totally see their point; Staton really brought that vulnerability to Phelps that made him compelling, and it's fascinating to know how much thought goes into character casting.
