Hollywood stars Milo Ventimiglia, Kiernan Shipka, and Michael Rooker are suiting up for battle—virtually—as they join the cast of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, the latest installment in Activision’s blockbuster franchise.
The game was officially revealed Sunday during the Xbox Games Showcase, confirming it as the next chapter in the long-running Call of Duty series. Developed by Treyarch and Raven Software, Black Ops 7 marks the franchise’s first consecutive release within the Black Ops storyline—following up directly on Black Ops 6.
According to the official game logline, the story is set in the year 2035, more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6. The world is spiraling into chaos amid violent conflict and psychological warfare—events that directly tie into plot threads from Black Ops 2. At the heart of the mission is David Mason, returning to lead a team armed with cutting-edge tech against an adversary who weaponizes fear itself.
Ventimiglia voices and performs motion capture for David Mason, reprising a fan-favorite role first introduced in Black Ops 2. Shipka joins the franchise as newcomer Emma Kagan, while Rooker returns as Mike Harper, another familiar face from the second installment.
"The Black Ops universe is amazing,” said Matt Cox, general manager of Call of Duty, in a blog post. “The creativity and imagination that goes into the storytelling, the rich character depth, and the incredible moment-to-moment gameplay across all modes is really exceptional.”
Players can expect both solo and multiplayer options, with a host of new maps and gameplay mechanics built to expand on Black Ops 6. The game will launch later this year across Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC via Xbox PC, Battle.net, and Steam. It will also be available on day one for Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass subscribers.
“This is the first time we’re staying within the Black Ops series with back-to-back releases,” added Tyler Bahl, head of Activision Publishing Marketing. “We’re excited to give players more of what they want across Black Ops 6 and Call of Duty: Warzone before turning the page to Black Ops 7.”
According to Activision, the game is not expected to be affected by the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike against video game companies.
