After nearly a decade of anticipation, Dragon Ball Super is finally bringing the Galactic Patrol Prisoner arc to television. The original anime concluded in 2018, but the manga continued the saga with a cosmic storyline that wrapped up in 2020. Ever since, fans have been asking the same question: when will the Galactic Patrol arc get the anime adaptation it deserves?
While audiences have been waiting patiently, so has Christopher Sabat — the longtime English voice of Vegeta.
Sabat on Returning as Vegeta
Sabat has portrayed the proud Saiyan prince for 25 years, making him one of the most recognizable voices in anime dubbing. When asked about reprising the role for Dragon Ball Super’s Galactic Patrol arc, Sabat made it clear that he’s more than willing — but also realistic.
He explained that he’s available and eager to continue voicing Vegeta, adding that it would feel like a missed opportunity not to return while he’s still capable. At the same time, he acknowledged that change is always possible in a long-running franchise. If the role were to pass to someone else, he said he would understand — even if it would be bittersweet.
Having spent a quarter of a century with the character, Sabat expressed gratitude above all else. Voicing Vegeta for so long, he noted, has been an incredible journey.
Sharing the Role in Dragon Ball Daima
For the first time in franchise history, Sabat recently shared the role of Vegeta in Dragon Ball Daima. In that series, Paul Castro Jr. voiced a younger version of the character.
Sabat praised Castro’s performance, joking that it was nice to let someone else handle the intense screaming sessions. He commended Castro for capturing Vegeta’s attitude and spirit, showing that the legacy of the character can continue in capable hands.
The moment marked a significant shift for the franchise — and perhaps a glimpse into its future.
The Physical Toll of Going Super Saiyan
While fans often focus on the energy blasts and transformations, few consider the physical demands placed on voice actors. Sabat was candid about the strain that comes with recording long, high-intensity sessions.
He admitted that performing Vegeta’s explosive screams and battle cries is far more taxing than it used to be. It’s not just about vocal strain — the physical tension involved affects his back and shoulders as well. Years of powering up on the mic take their toll.
His co-star Sean Schemmel, the English voice of Goku, has famously discussed passing out during intense recording sessions in the past. In fact, during a recent transformation scene in Dragon Ball Daima, Schemmel reportedly fainted multiple times.
Sabat hasn’t experienced that extreme outcome, but he remains mindful of his limits. The sessions are physically exhausting, he said — yet he’s determined to continue for as long as he’s able.
Will Sabat Return for Galactic Patrol?
With the Galactic Patrol arc finally heading to animation, fans are hopeful that the original English dub cast will return. Sabat seems optimistic that he and his fellow actors will be called back.
Still, he maintains a balanced perspective. He plans to keep voicing Vegeta as long as the opportunity — and his body — allow. If the time ever comes to step aside, he’ll do so with appreciation for the decades he’s spent bringing the Saiyan prince to life.
For now, though, one thing is clear: Christopher Sabat isn’t done just yet.
As Dragon Ball Super prepares to explore one of its most anticipated story arcs, the future of Vegeta’s voice may still be in question — but the passion behind it certainly isn’t.
