Viture Beast XR Glasses: Your New Gaming Companion?

In today’s gaming world, taking your experience on the road has never been easier, thanks to handheld devices like the Nintendo Switch, Steam Deck, and even our trusty smartphones. However, one common issue that many gamers face is the screen size. It’s tough to compete with a massive TV when you’re stuck with a seven-inch display. Enter Extended Reality (XR) glasses, a promising solution to this conundrum. While earlier models were bulky and often gave users headaches, the technology has come a long way. Viture’s Beast XR glasses manage to strike the perfect balance between clarity and comfort.

After spending two weeks with the Beast XR glasses, I was genuinely impressed. These glasses work like a Swiss army knife for gaming, featuring a dual 1920x1200p Sony Micro-OLED display, a refresh rate of up to 120Hz, and brightness reaching 1,250 Nits. According to Viture, they can project a virtual screen equivalent to a whopping 174 inches! On paper, those specs sound fantastic, but in reality, the Beast XR glasses deliver a vibrant and sharp image that left me feeling like I was in front of a cinema screen, despite not having a tape measure handy.

One of the best features is the customization options. You can adjust the virtual display size and even choose whether it moves with your head or stays fixed to avoid any motion sickness. There’s also an auto-transparency mode, perceived distance tracking, and customizable dimming, making it easy to game even in public spaces—though I did catch a few curious stares from passersby. Weighing in at less than 90 grams, these glasses are lightweight and comfortable, coming with various nose pad options to accommodate different face shapes.

Adjusting the tilt of the glasses is simple, and connecting them to your console is just a matter of plugging a USB cable from the right arm into your device’s USB-C port. The design of the cable is quite clever, flowing smoothly behind your head, making it unobtrusive. The glasses sport a stylish wayfarer design, with controls on each arm that let you tweak your gaming settings effortlessly.

The left arm features a main menu along with buttons to adjust brightness and volume, while the right arm allows you to change screen modes, lens tints, and even toggle 3D settings. The built-in Harman speakers provide surprisingly good sound quality, delivering a punchy audio experience. A front-mounted camera helps track your head movements, intended for future augmented reality features, but for now, it serves to keep the screen aligned with your view. Plus, it doesn’t record any video, so you can game worry-free.

These glasses are compatible with a range of devices, including PCs and various consoles. I tested them with everything from my handheld Asus ROG Ally X and Switch 2 to my PS5 Pro and Xbox Series X|S. A quick note: only my ROG Ally X, iPad Pro, and laptop worked seamlessly with the included USB-C cable. For other devices, the Viture Pro Mobile Dock is necessary to establish a connection, which costs an additional $129 (approx. Rs 35,860).

The dock is a useful addition, featuring a power bank to prolong your handheld gaming sessions and ports for connecting two XR glasses for multiplayer fun. I had a blast gaming across all my systems with the glasses, enjoying a crisp picture focused at the center, which is where they shine.

However, it’s worth noting that the glasses do have some limitations. You might spot some chromatic aberration around the edges, and they can get warm during extended play. That said, these are minor hiccups for an otherwise fantastic experience. I dived into various titles, including Vampire Crawlers, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on my Switch 2, to big hitters like Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and Assassin’s Creed on my PS5 Pro. Each game performed flawlessly, with zero lag and no crashes—just pure enjoyment.

While I think I’ll use these fancy specs more for handheld consoles, it’s great knowing they can also enhance my home gaming experience, especially if I find myself in a place with an ancient TV setup.

Beyond gaming, I found these glasses to be surprisingly versatile. I used them for PlayStation Remote Play on my tablet and even for Zoom calls on my PC. Although they aren’t quite suited for tasks like video editing, where precision is key, they do serve up a better Netflix experience than your average laptop screen.

The Viture Beast XR glasses make a strong impression straight out of the box. With sharp Micro-OLED displays and a comfy frame, they effortlessly transition between gaming and casual viewing. While there are a few drawbacks, like the need for the dock for some consoles and the occasional fuzziness at the edges, the overall experience is stellar. If you’re looking to elevate your gaming setup, these glasses are definitely worth considering. The technology is improving rapidly, and Viture’s offering represents a solid leap forward in wearable gaming tech.
