Mixtape’s Future Secured: No Plans for Delisting Over Music Licenses

In the ever-evolving world of video games, the fear of delisting is something many players are all too familiar with. A recent study suggested that a staggering 87% of games become unplayable without either a physical copy or downloading through piracy or archives. This statistic definitely raises eyebrows, especially when we see beloved titles disappearing from digital stores. Just this year, we’ve seen games like Star Trek: Resurgence and a whopping 29 Disney titles vanish into thin air.

Recently, concerns have been swirling about Mixtape, the narrative adventure game that just dropped this month and has sparked diverse opinions among gamers. With its rich soundtrack featuring various licensed songs, many were bracing for bad news regarding its availability. But fear not! In a chat with a gaming outlet, Johnny Galvatron, the creative director behind the game, clarified that the team at Beethoven and Dinosaur made sure to secure the music licenses for the long haul. They even shelled out extra cash to ensure Mixtape stays safe from the licensing woes that typically plague games.

Taking it a step further, publisher Annapurna chimed in on social media, reassuring fans, “We’ve heard some chatter about Mixtape potentially being delisted due to expiring music licenses. That’s completely false. Enjoy your weekend!” Their confidence is certainly refreshing, given that the game boasts over two dozen licensed tracks, including hits from artists like Iggy Pop and DEVO.

While it’s good news that Mixtape won’t be facing delisting anytime soon due to music issues, it’s important to remember that games can be removed for other reasons. Nevertheless, the reassurance about its music licenses is a win for gamers and collectors alike. Whether or not you’re a fan of the game—scoring a solid 74% from a reviewer who praised its charm—its preservation is a significant step in protecting our digital gaming history.
