Commodore’s Callback Phone Makes Waves in Sales Debut

In a surprising twist in the tech world, Commodore, the nostalgic name in gaming, has made quite an impression with its latest release. After being revived in 2025 by YouTuber Chris “Peri Fractic” Simpson, the company has shifted gears to hardware, launching products like the Commodore 64 Ultimate and the sleek 64C. But the real buzz started with their new gadget, the Callback, an old-school flip phone that’s turning heads.

The Callback isn’t your average phone; it’s designed to keep you away from social media distractions. This means no Facebook, Instagram, or even Twitter—now known as X. Instead, it packs a punch with a selection of retro games like the classic Snake. However, it does allow for WhatsApp and GPS, making it a bit more functional than your typical “dumbphone.” Initially priced at $500 (approx. Rs 139,000), Commodore quickly slashed the cost by $100 (approx. Rs 27,800) before the launch, and that decision seems to have worked wonders.

According to Commodore, the Callback sold as many units in just three days as the Commodore 64 Ultimate did in its first month. They celebrated this milestone on social media, calling it “Our biggest launch. Our biggest week. The biggest moment in Commodore’s modern history!” Ironically, though, you wouldn’t be able to see that post if you were using the Callback, as it blocks access to various popular apps.

As someone who grew up enjoying the Commodore 64 and its floppy disk games, I find myself torn. While I appreciate the nostalgia and simplicity, I also love the convenience of having apps like Discord and email on my phone. It’s a tough choice between old-school charm and modern connectivity, even if it means trading in some classic games for a few more conveniences!

Note: PKR figures are approximate, based on a rate of Rs 278.00 per USD. Exchange rates fluctuate — please check the latest dollar rate for exact pricing.
