Danganronpa 2×2 Pushed Back to Early 2027
In some bittersweet news for fans of the Danganronpa series, Spike Chunsoft has announced that the highly anticipated Danganronpa 2×2 will now be arriving in early 2027 instead of the previously planned 2026 window. Producer Shohei Sakakibara shared the update, emphasizing that while the team has been hard at work, they’ve decided a little extra time is necessary to ensure a top-notch experience.
While the exact reasons for this delay were not disclosed, the studio did offer a glimpse of some exciting new features to look forward to. One of the standout additions is a fresh gameplay mode dubbed “Slayhem Mode”. This feature promises to deliver a completely reimagined story that diverges significantly from the original narrative of Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair.
Sakakibara mentioned that players can expect a unique storyline with different victims, culprits, and clever twists, all while featuring about 20% more content than the original mode. Notably, both narrative options will be accessible right from the start, giving players the opportunity to choose their adventure.
Additionally, the game will introduce a new 3D world map, replacing the traditional side-scrolling format, and character portraits have been upgraded for a more modern aesthetic. Screenshots showcasing these developments have been released, and they look promising!
Originally announced during a Nintendo Direct event last year, Danganronpa 2×2 will still be launching on multiple platforms, including PC, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S. While it’s a bit disappointing to wait a little longer, fans can take solace in the fact that the developers are committed to delivering a fantastic gaming experience. Keep an eye out for more updates as we move towards the new release date!
