Denuvo DRM Sneaks Into Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight Just Before Launch

In a surprising twist just weeks before the launch of Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, developer TT Games and publisher Warner Bros. Games have slipped in the much-debated Denuvo DRM software. This news comes as PC gamers are already buzzing about the game’s impending release on May 22, 2026, across platforms including PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X | S.

The revelation hit social media when a Reddit user, luffy_3155, pointed out that the game’s Steam page now sports a third-party DRM tag. While Denuvo is often employed by game developers to combat piracy, it has garnered quite a bit of criticism from the gaming community, primarily due to its notorious impact on game performance.

As soon as it was confirmed that Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight would include Denuvo, many gamers expressed their dissatisfaction. One user stated, “Oh well, if they ever fix performance and remove Denuvo, I’ll buy it on a steep sale.” Another chimed in, noting, “Bruh, the game already has INSANE system requirements. Now, Denuvo is gonna TANK performance even more.”

To make matters worse, the recently unveiled system requirements for the game are quite demanding. Running on Unreal Engine 5, it calls for a whopping 16 GB of RAM and insists on enabling frame generation just to hit a meager 30 frames per second. Adding Denuvo into this mix has many worried that their hardware may struggle to run the game smoothly, if at all.

Historically, Batman games on PC haven’t had the smoothest launches, leaving many fans of Lego Batman anxious about a repeat of the disastrous launch of Batman: Arkham Knight back in 2015. As we edge closer to the release date, it remains to be seen how the performance of Legacy of the Dark Knight will fare.

One concerned player remarked, “Performance was already an issue with this game. This will surely help.” Meanwhile, the gaming landscape continues to evolve as players find ways to bypass Denuvo DRM. Just last month, a Reddit user named voices38 made headlines by cracking the DRM for Resident Evil Requiem, suggesting that players have begun finding workarounds for several single-player games that utilize this technology.

With Lego Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight poised to hit the shelves soon, fans are eager yet apprehensive. Just a few days ago, TT and Warner Bros. released a playful launch trailer featuring Seal’s “Kiss from a Rose,” keeping the hype alive amidst all the concerns. The gaming community is left waiting to see how this adventure will unfold when it officially launches.
