Exciting News: Framework Launches Affordable 1 TB Gen 5 SSDs
Hold on to your seats, gamers! Framework is shaking things up by slashing prices on their laptop SSDs. In a surprising twist, they’re rolling out new 1 TB drives that are actually cheaper than the old 500 GB models. And guess what? Some of the pre-orders that haven’t shipped yet will also benefit from this price drop. Could this be a sign that the storage shortage chaos is starting to ease? Well, let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. These reductions are quite specific, focusing solely on optional PCIe Gen 5 SSDs.
Framework’s CEO, Nirav Patel, shared the exciting news in a recent blog post, stating, “We finally have some good news for you regarding the pricing on PCIe Gen 5 SSDs for Framework Laptop 13 Pro. We’ve forged a partnership with ADATA to bring in the XPG MARS 970 SSD, which boasts enhanced performance, efficiency, and reliability, all at a significantly lower price than our previous SSD option.”
What’s even more interesting is that this price reduction will apply to some orders that are already in the pipeline. Patel added, “Since we haven’t started shipping the Framework Laptop 13 Pro pre-orders yet, we’ll be updating all existing pre-orders that chose the previous Gen 5 SSD options, lowering the price for those orders too.”
One of the standout features of this update is that Framework is offering 1 TB PCIe Gen 5 drives for less than the cost of their old 500 GB drive. Patel elaborated, “This new SSD comes in 1 TB and 2 TB variants, with the 1 TB priced lower than the earlier 500 GB SSD option, so we’ll also be upgrading 500 GB orders to the 1 TB drive at the new lower price.”
To give you a clearer picture, the 1 TB version of the ADATA XPG MARS 970 will set you back $299 (approx. Rs 83,120) when you order it along with a Framework Laptop 13 Pro. The 2 TB model costs $659 (approx. Rs 183,200). However, it’s worth noting that the ADATA XPG MARS 970 doesn’t seem to be available separately at typical online stores, making direct price comparisons a bit tricky. While there might be cheaper Gen 5 drives out there, they may not match the specs or performance of this one.
In the grand scheme of things, this development highlights Framework’s dedication to sourcing quality components rather than indicating a major shift in the market. But hey, it shows that with a little effort in shopping around, you can ease the pain of high prices. So, keep your eyes peeled for these new SSDs!
