Just read about a new piece of malware, GigaWiper, which has some pretty alarming capabilities that I thought would be important to share with the community. This malware is particularly insidious as it's designed not only to completely wipe your storage drives at a deep, physical level, making data recovery virtually impossible, but also capable of spying on your desktop and even allowing remote control. What makes it unique is its multi-pronged approach, stitching together various malicious functions, including imitating ransomware but then just throwing away the encryption key. While it's primarily aimed at organizations, it’s a good reminder for us individual users as well. As someone running a single SSD for my system and games, hearing about something that can irreversibly destroy data makes me feel uneasy and reinforces the critical importance of keeping our security software updated. It’s a strong reminder that robust security practices are vital, even for personal gaming rigs, to prevent any breach in the first place.
