The Future of MMOs: Is It Bleak?
0
I just read some eye-opening thoughts from Raph Koster about the state of the MMO genre. He argues that the assembly line approach to developing theme park MMOs is failing, especially as development costs skyrocket. It's crazy to think that while we see some great games, most of them are over a decade old, and the new ones just aren't hitting the mark. His insights about the industry being on the verge of a crisis really resonate with me; it feels like we’re stuck in a cycle of boring, monetized experiences rather than the innovative sandboxes we used to enjoy. With the upcoming Stars Reach aiming to break from this mold, do you think there's hope for a revival of the sandbox MMO, or are we just getting more of the same?
