Fumito Ueda Hints at Potential PC Releases for His Iconic Classics
Fumito Ueda, the legendary director known for crafting unforgettable experiences like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian, recently dropped some exciting hints about his classic titles possibly making their way to PC. While he has released a game on PC before, his history is deeply tied to PlayStation, where he worked tirelessly until the release of The Last Guardian in 2016.
His upcoming project, Gen Atlas, developed in collaboration with Epic Games, marks a new beginning as it’s set to be the first game directed by Ueda that will launch on PC. He expressed his enthusiasm about this development, stating, “I have nothing but excitement and am happy that this can reach a lot more players just from day one.” Ueda’s excitement is palpable as he looks forward to welcoming new gamers into the world of his creative vision.
However, during a recent chat, we couldn’t resist asking Ueda about the possibility of seeing his previous masterpieces on PC. He seemed open to the idea, replying, “Yeah, if there is [such] an opportunity, I think it’s only good news for the games.” But it’s essential to remember that the fate of these iconic titles isn’t solely in his hands, as games like Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were developed while he was at Sony, and they hold the rights to those projects.
Given Sony’s current focus on other projects, the likelihood of a PC port of these classics remains uncertain. Yet, Ueda shares the hope of many fans when he said, “I hope so too,” hinting at a glimpse of optimism for players eager to experience his earlier works on a new platform.
