Imagine Dragons’ Last Flag Shifts Focus Just Weeks After Launch
Night Street Games, the studio launched by the frontman of Imagine Dragons, Dan Reynolds, along with his brother Mac, has made a big announcement about their latest project, Last Flag. Just under a month after its launch, the team is shifting their attention away from ongoing support for the game.
In an update posted on their Steam page, the developers confirmed that while they have a series of planned content updates set to launch in the coming months, they will cease any post-launch support after April 14, marking the game’s official release on PC through the Epic Games Store and Steam.
“Creating Last Flag has been a dream for our team,” the studio shared. They acknowledged that the current player base isn’t large enough to warrant further development beyond the scheduled patches, but they’re committed to ensuring those updates deliver plenty of value and enjoyment to players.
The developers reassured fans that Last Flag isn’t going anywhere. “We don’t want to kill our game – we want to hand it over to the community that helped us get here,” they stated. After the upcoming updates—which will introduce a new character, map, game mode, cosmetics, leaderboards, and more—the focus will shift to enhancing replayability and community involvement.
Night Street aims to empower its dedicated players, allowing them to keep the game alive with features like persistent lobbies and unique gameplay rules inspired by classics like GoldenEye, Team Fortress 2, and Super Smash Bros.
In a separate message on the official Last Flag Discord, Mac Reynolds mentioned that with this new direction, a console version of the game is now “unlikely.” He expressed gratitude for the community’s feedback and support, stating, “Building Last Flag for you has been a dream come true. The game is now yours, and we hope to capture many flags together in the coming years.”
Despite the challenges, Last Flag has managed to maintain a “Mostly Positive” rating on Steam, although the player count has significantly dwindled; the peak was just 558 players shortly after launch, and fewer than 40 players were active at the time of this report.
For those curious about the game, there’s currently a free-to-play weekend running through May 4, giving players a chance to dive in without spending a dime. While Night Street Games may not be rolling out new content anytime soon, they are committed to providing a quality experience for those still enjoying Last Flag. Keep an eye out for what’s next from the team at Night Street Games!
