Inside the World of 007 First Light: Bond’s Color Dilemma and Design Choices

There’s a buzz surrounding the upcoming game, 007 First Light, but I can’t help but feel a bit anxious about what I’ve seen so far. It seems like the developers might be playing it a little too safe and sticking to a linear path, which doesn’t quite capitalize on IO Interactive’s creative strengths. I wonder if the folks at Amazon, who hold the Bond license, are being overly cautious with their iconic character. Could it be that IO can’t go as bold with Bond as they do with their own legendary figure, Agent 47?

To get a clearer picture, I chatted with Rasmus Poulsen, the franchise art director for 007 First Light. Surprisingly, he shared that working with another license turned out to be easier than expected. They managed to nail down significant aspects, like portraying Bond as a younger character, right from the start. Poulsen mentioned, “The youthful take has been a go from day one. We put a lot of effort and honor into doing our homework. The conversation flows easier when you have a solid foundation.” Sounds promising, right?

But here’s where things get quirky. Poulsen revealed that the nitty-gritty discussions that take up most of their time aren’t about the big picture but rather strange specifics you wouldn’t think twice about. For instance, they found themselves mulling over an odd question: what color car would Bond never drive? “It’s a bizarre topic that sparks different opinions. We all chuckle, thinking, ‘Wow, this is a strange discussion,'” he recalled.

It turns out, these peculiar conversations can stretch on for days. “We dive into these fun, yet odd conversations that might require three meetings, while the major decisions, like Bond’s youth, get settled in a snap,” added Poulsen. And if you’re curious, the consensus on the color Bond would steer clear of is white. However, that comes with its own caveats—like whether it’s leased, rented locally, or even borrowed from a rental service. Imagine the chaos if they had to debate whether Bond would rock a white car from Hertz or Enterprise. This could lead to another series of meetings!

Oh, and for the Bond enthusiasts out there, remember that iconic white Lotus Esprit from *The Spy Who Loved Me*? It seems like we might need more discussions to untangle the web of Bond’s color choices. All in all, the journey of 007 First Light is shaping up to be intriguing, with a mix of serious design work and some really fun quirks along the way!
