Invincible VS Developers Open to Mortal Kombat Crossover

The creators of Invincible VS have shared some exciting thoughts about possible collaborations with other gaming franchises, particularly dreaming about inclusions from the iconic Mortal Kombat series. During a recent chat at Evo 2026, we had the pleasure of speaking with Game Director Dave Hall and Lead Combat Designer Bau Bautista, who expressed their enthusiasm for the idea of adding guest characters.

When we brought up the concept of crossovers similar to what’s seen in titles like Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8, both Hall and Bautista were all in. However, they emphasized that any characters would need to fit well into the unique world of Invincible. Hall humorously noted, “I wouldn’t want to put Mario or Luigi in there. That’d be cool, but I don’t want to rip his head off!”

This led us to suggest various characters from the Mortal Kombat universe, and to our delight, Hall and Bautista were all for it. Hall stated, “NetherRealm, they’re the best. That would be incredible,” while Bautista chimed in, “If there’s an opportunity, I’m not going to say no to Scorpion.” It’s worth mentioning that the Invincible comics are known for their many crossovers, so the idea isn’t too far-fetched for the team.

Guest characters have been a hot topic among fighting game fans, especially with recent announcements like Yujiro Hanma joining Tekken 8 and Kenshiro appearing in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves. Not to mention Tifa Lockhart from Final Fantasy VII making her way to Street Fighter 6 in early 2027. Mortal Kombat, in particular, is famous for its wild guest appearances, which makes the idea of a crossover with Invincible VS even more thrilling.

Besides potential guest characters, the developers also shared some insights about the game’s future. They are looking to expand single-player content, continue the story mode, and introduce new mechanics for existing characters. For example, Bautista revealed that they initially planned a ‘revive’ mechanic for Atom Eve, but decided to hold off to ensure it was polished: “There was too much to work through. We wanted to focus on making her solid before adding to her kit.”

The team is keeping a close eye on community feedback, prioritizing player suggestions that come through their official channels. Hall emphasized their commitment to listening, saying, “We’re kind of a real-time developer and if we see something wrong, we’re going to fix it as soon as we can.” They are currently focused on enriching the game with more characters and modes while ensuring the foundation remains strong.

As for single-player experiences, Hall assured fans that the team is actively working on new content. However, he noted that they can’t guarantee the continuation of the cinematic story mode, which left players on a cliffhanger. “We’re not done building the game. We’re a small team of 50, so there’s only so much we can do, but we’re trying our best to prioritize and deliver more content for everyone.”
