Khaleesi Unfiltered: Emilia Clarke on Why ‘No One Liked’ Secret Invasion & Solo!
Our very own Dragon Queen, Emilia Clarke, has been part of some massive Hollywood projects that, let’s be honest, didn’t quite get the royal treatment from fans and critics alike. But guess what? She’s taking it all in stride, saying the less-than-stellar reception for shows like Secret Invasion and movies such as Solo: A Star Wars Story is absolutely “not personal.”
The actress who brought Daenerys Targaryen to life recently opened up in a candid interview, sharing her perspective on the highs and lows of her blockbuster career. It’s no secret that her ventures into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) and the Star Wars galaxy didn’t exactly become fan favorites, but Clarke isn’t letting it weigh her down.
With a playful chuckle, she admitted about Secret Invasion, “I don’t think no one liked that show, guys! I’m sorry!” She didn’t stop there, adding, “Star Wars? They didn’t like it. Terminator? That should never have happened.” Talk about keeping it real!
Emilia Clarke is no stranger to starring in projects that end up facing a barrage of criticism. Beyond her roles as G’iah in the MCU’s Secret Invasion, Qi’ra in Solo: A Star Wars Story, or Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys, even the final season of Game of Thrones, where she played such an iconic character, drew its fair share of online chatter and disappointment from the global fandom.
For Clarke, it all boils down to perspective. “These were jobs I said yes to,” she explained. Her logic is simple: “I entered into already existing franchises, so when they don’t work out, it’s not personal.” It’s a pragmatic approach to navigating the often-brutal world of fan expectations, especially when stepping into beloved universes with deep roots.
Looking ahead, Clarke is focused on finding the “right thing” for her next big role. And she’s made it clear that she won’t be dwelling on past mishaps. For her, the job ends when the cameras stop rolling. “My connection to a project ends when they say, ‘Picture wrap,’” she stated. “Because it’s not for me to decide what people will think of it.”
So, while gamers and movie buffs might debate the merits of these big-budget productions, Emilia Clarke is just moving forward, unfazed and ready for her next adventure. She recently appeared in Peacock’s Ponies and is set to star in the upcoming film Next Life.
