Kripke Shuts Down “Commercialism” Claims Over Vought Rising Nods in The Boys Season 5!

Alright, fellow Supes-hunters! If you’ve been glued to your screens watching the intense final season of The Boys, you know it’s been a wild ride. But as we inch closer to the series finale next week, there’s been a bit of chatter in the fandom, especially concerning some familiar faces and hints dropped for the upcoming prequel, Vought Rising.

Some fans, bless their vigilant hearts, started wondering if the inclusion of characters like Soldier Boy and the new face, Bombsight, in this final season was just a sly marketing move. You know, a bit of “craven commercialism” to hype up the spin-off series. Well, good news, fam: The Boys showrunner, Eric Kripke, has officially weighed in, and he’s shutting down those theories faster than Homelander in a bad mood!

Kripke recently opened up about the creative process behind Season 5, assuring everyone that their decisions weren’t just about pushing another show. He explained that when they were developing this season, his main focus was giving the main series characters a proper, epic send-off. The goal was to seamlessly weave in elements from the wider Vought universe without making it feel like “homework” or, worse, just a long commercial.

He revealed that a big part of it revolved around the “V-One McGuffin” and the mystery of characters like Soldier Boy and Stormfront’s immortality. “Why are they immortal? What’s the secret behind their powers?” Kripke pondered. Once they landed on the concept of V-One, it naturally led to exploring who might possess it. It wasn’t a case of “Gotta get Bombsight in there, guys, just to set up the spin-off!” he clarified.

Speaking of Bombsight, who made his debut in Season 5, Episode 6, Kripke mentioned that his appearance was actually a cool, collaborative effort. He worked closely with the showrunner for Vought Rising. When the question arose in the writers’ room about who should ultimately have the V-One, it made perfect sense to connect it to an existing, badass character from the expanding universe rather than inventing a random new one. It was, as Kripke put it, “pretty organic.”

So, there you have it! Kripke’s message is clear: the nods to Vought Rising were born from a desire to build a rich, interconnected universe where every piece fits logically, not from a place of pure commercial gain. It’s all about making sense of the bigger picture.

As we brace ourselves for the grand finale of The Boys next week, remember that the Vought universe is only getting bigger. Vought Rising, which is set in the 1950s and will delve into the origins of iconic characters like Soldier Boy (played by Jensen Ackles) and Stormfront (Aya Cash), is set to premiere in the first half of 2027. Until then, let’s savour every moment of this final ride!
