Laughs and Loading Screens: Comedian Alasdair Beckett-King’s Unforgettable Gaming PC Journey

Ever wondered what games make your favourite comedians tick? We at PakGamersHub managed to get a peek into the digital life of renowned comedian Alasdair Beckett-King, famous for his witty YouTube sketches and panel show appearances. Turns out, he’s not just a master of punchlines, but also a dedicated gamer with some seriously unique takes on titles we all love (and some forgotten gems!).

Beckett-King’s gaming journey started way back on a second-hand ZX Spectrum, playing Dizzy in black and white – talk about a hardcore start! He quickly fell in love with classic point-and-click adventure games like The Secret of Monkey Island and Full Throttle, a passion that even led him into game development for a while.

From Grimdark to ‘Indie Oblivion’

What’s currently hooked him? It’s a game called Tainted Grail: Fall of Avalon. Despite the somewhat dark, Souls-like visuals, Beckett-King was pleasantly surprised. He calls it “indie Oblivion” rather than “indie Skyrim,” praising its sillier, more character-driven side quests and less intense combat. Sounds like a refreshing change of pace!

But his first true RPG love was Morrowind. He hilariously recounted his very first moments in the game: “The first time I loaded it up, I walked straight into a little pond and was killed by a fish.” Yes, you read that right – a fish! It’s a classic Bethesda jank moment, but one that clearly stuck with him, cementing his love for Morrowind’s ambition and unique weirdness.

Revisiting Classics and Unearthing Gems

Before Tainted Grail, he dived back into the remastered Broken Sword. Even after playing it countless times, he found himself stumped by the puzzles again (except for the infamous goat!). He lauded the game’s timeless atmosphere, engaging characters, and how much the subtle music cues and bespoke animations of 90s adventure games added to the experience.

When it comes to his oldest installed game, it’s not some obscure DOS title, but a 1997 FMV (Full Motion Video) game based on Cluedo. Not the board game, but a proper detective mystery featuring actual actors! A self-proclaimed “sucker for FMV” and deduction games, he believes this forgotten title is a genuinely good detective experience, despite the grainy visuals and crinkly sound.

The Witcher Saga and an Unyielding Metroidvania

Clocking in at a whopping 266 hours on Steam, his most-played game is none other than The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. He’s played through it three times, and here’s a pro tip from him: try it on hard mode. He found it transformed his experience, forcing him to truly embody Geralt by researching monster weaknesses and preparing for battles, making him more invested in the world.

And the game he’ll never uninstall? That would be Silksong, the highly anticipated sequel to Hollow Knight. Despite being stuck in the daunting coral tower, he refuses to give up. He loves Metroidvanias for their exploration and rich worlds, even if he’s not a fan of boss fights or repetition – a feeling many of us can relate to!

Beyond the Pixels: Blender and the Desktop Chaos

It’s not all gaming, though. His essential non-gaming software is Blender 3D, which he’s been using since film school for visual effects and now for the fantastic animations in his YouTube sketches. He’s spent 25 years mastering this “famously unfriendly” software, proving his dedication to his craft.

Finally, the most relatable confession: his desktop is a chaotic mess! Icons piled on top of each other, countless “New Folder” instances… sounds like many of our own PCs, doesn’t it?

It’s always fascinating to see how gaming intertwines with the lives of public figures. Alasdair Beckett-King’s journey, from dying to a fish in Morrowind to meticulously crafting animations in Blender, reminds us that the love for games is a universal, often hilarious, adventure!
