Mario Kart Tour Hits the Finish Line: Nintendo Announces Shutdown, No Offline Pit Stop

Bummer alert, PakGamers! Nintendo just dropped some major news that’s going to hit many mobile racers right in the feels. After nearly seven years of karting fun on our phones, Mario Kart Tour is officially shutting down. Mark your calendars (and maybe shed a tear or two), because the game will become unplayable from September 29, 2026, at 11 PM PT – which translates to September 30, 2 AM ET or 7 AM BST for those keeping track.

Nintendo released a statement expressing gratitude to the players who have supported the game since its launch. It’s always tough to say goodbye to a game you’ve invested time in, and this one feels particularly poignant for mobile gamers who enjoyed the on-the-go racing action.

But wait, there’s more news, and it’s not the good kind. Unlike what happened with Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, where Nintendo confirmed an offline version was in the works after its service end announcement, there are no plans for an offline equivalent for Mario Kart Tour. This means once those servers go dark, the game is gone for good. Ouch. For fans hoping to keep their collected karts and drivers, this is a real blow.

Along with the shutdown announcement, Nintendo has also ceased the sale of Rubies, the game’s in-game currency. Furthermore, new purchases and automatic renewals for the Gold Pass subscription have been stopped. However, if you’re currently a Gold Pass subscriber, you’ll be able to enjoy its benefits for free until the game’s final day, albeit without the continuous-subscription perks. And for those who weren’t subscribed, Nintendo is generously offering the same Gold Pass benefits to everyone from August 4. So, if you’ve always wanted to try it out, now’s your chance to experience everything for free before the final curtain call!

While Mario Kart Tour itself is heading to the digital graveyard, some of its legacy will live on. A number of tracks originally introduced in Tour, like Tokyo Blur, Paris Promenade, and Sky-High Sundae, have already made their way into the popular Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and even Mario Kart World. We’re definitely hoping that Nintendo considers preserving more of Tour’s unique circuits as future DLC for Mario Kart World, giving these beloved tracks a second life on console.

Just last week, Mario Kart World received an update adding two new Knockout Tour routes, though these were fresh ways to experience existing tracks rather than entirely new circuits. It’s a bittersweet moment, seeing new content while knowing the end is nigh. It marks the end of an era for mobile Mario Kart, but hopefully, the spirit of those tracks will continue to race on!
