Production Halted for God of War Series Following Actor’s Injury
In a surprising twist for fans eagerly awaiting the God of War series, production has come to a screeching halt following a serious injury to lead actor Ryan Hurst. The actor, who is set to portray the iconic Kratos, reportedly tore his bicep while performing a stunt, leading to a pause in filming as he prepares for surgery.
According to insiders, the extent of Hurst’s injury is significant enough to sideline him for an extended period, possibly pushing the filming timeline well beyond the optimistic mid-August target initially proposed by the production team. Some sources even speculate that we might see delays extending as far as 2027, depending on how quickly Hurst recuperates.
This setback isn’t the first bump in the road for the God of War series. Last year, showrunner Rafe Judkins stepped away from the project, prompting Amazon and MGM to bring in Ronald D. Moore, a name familiar to fans of Battlestar Galactica and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Currently set to stream on Prime Video, the series has yet to announce a specific release date. Back in February, we got our first glimpse of Hurst as Kratos, alongside Callum Vinson appearing as Atreus. The excitement also includes Ed Skrien, known for his roles in Deadpool and Alita: Battle Angel, stepping in as Baldur. The cast is star-studded, featuring talents like Mandy Patinkin as Odin, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson as Thor, and Teresa Palmer as Sif, with Danny Woodburn and Jeff Gulka taking on the roles of Brok and Sindri.
Adding to the nostalgia, Alastair Duncan, who voiced and performed motion capture for Mimir in the games, will reprise his role in the series, joining Hurst, who originally voiced Thor in God of War: Ragnarok.
While fans wait for production to resume, there’s still some excitement to look forward to with the upcoming God of War spinoff, titled God of War Laufey. This game will follow the adventures of Kratos’ second wife as she navigates the complexities of the afterlife among the gods.
