Steam Controllers Fly Off the Shelves: Resellers Cashing In Big Time!
In just half an hour, the first batch of Valve’s revamped Steam Controllers was completely sold out! While some lucky gamers managed to snag their orders, others encountered frustrating Steam errors and are left waiting for the next restock. For those who can’t wait, confirmed orders are popping up on eBay, with prices soaring as high as $300—more than triple the original $99 price tag! (Someone’s even trying to sell one for an outrageous $735,889.32, but no one seems interested.)
Despite measures like limits on order quantities to control the resale market for popular tech, it seems that resellers are still finding ways to profit. Unfortunately, there’s no foolproof method to eliminate this practice unless there’s a surplus of stock, which isn’t the case right now. However, Valve has hinted that more controllers could be on the way soon.
Valve’s designer, Lawrence Yang, noted that they are ready to ramp up production if necessary. “We do think we’ll have a good amount of stock around the world for the launch,” he mentioned back in April. “If we realize there’s more demand, we can adjust production accordingly.”
The original Steam Controller, released in 2015, was more of a novelty that never gained much traction, but the buzz surrounding this new model seems promising. With excitement building around Valve’s latest hardware, especially the delayed Steam Machine, it’s no wonder gaming enthusiasts are rushing to get their hands on these controllers.
I’ve reached out to Valve for an update on when more Steam Controllers will be available, and I’ll keep you posted with any new information that comes in!
