Subnautica 2’s “Kill or Be Killed” Debate? This Mod Lets You Get Your Revenge!

Alright, fellow deep-sea explorers and survival enthusiasts, let’s talk about the biggest underwater dilemma in Subnautica 2 right now: to kill or not to kill? The gaming community has been buzzing like a school of Peeper fish around this one, and it’s a debate that has divided players.

For those who played the original Subnautica, you’ll remember the trusty survival knife that let you fend off, or even take down, those pesky and terrifying sea creatures. It was a simple, yet effective, way to defend yourself in a hostile alien ocean. But with Subnautica 2, the developers decided to shift gears, making it clear that their vision for the game isn’t about combat or “killing.” While we respect a dev’s artistic vision, for many players, this change left them feeling a bit… helpless against the ocean’s more aggressive inhabitants.

Enter the hero of our story: a brilliant modder named jibotron, who decided enough was enough. If the devs weren’t going to give us a way to fight back, a fan-made solution was the next best thing! Jibotron’s “Killable Creatures” mod is here to answer the call of players yearning for some underwater self-defense.

“Getting into Subnautica 2 for the first time and then realizing they took away the ability to kill made me angry,” jibotron shared. “Why take away a feature so simple especially when it’s a sandbox survival game? And after seeing the devs tell people it won’t be coming back and it doesn’t suit their vision for the game I thought why not make it myself having experience modding other games.” That’s the spirit of the modding community right there!

So, what does this mod actually do? Well, it doesn’t add new fancy weapons, but it cleverly weaponizes the tools you already have. Your survival multitool, which acts like a hammer, now deals a respectable 20 damage. And your sonic resonator? That bad boy can now blast creatures for 50 damage! Deal enough damage, and congratulations, you’ve turned that aggressive alien into an upside-down aquarium casualty. Revenge, anyone?

Here at PakGamersHub, we took the mod for a spin ourselves. While we understand the developers’ intent to create a non-violent exploration experience, there’s an undeniable satisfaction in finally being able to stand your ground. Chasing down those annoying Nibbler Mangos, which usually just pester you with tiny bites, suddenly becomes a mission. It can be a bit of a chore, as they’re quick to swim away after a hit, but landing those final blows feels oddly gratifying.

We successfully took down a few Hammerheads – those creatures that love to headbutt your parked vehicles endlessly – and that felt like true justice. We even managed to resonate a Coral Crab to death, though we must admit, that one felt a bit sad. They’re pretty to look at and don’t seem particularly hostile! As for the truly gigantic leviathans? We haven’t tried tackling one yet, but we imagine it would be a long, drawn-out battle. We’re sure some brave soul out there will attempt it!

One minor drawback is that while you can eliminate creatures, big or small, their defeated forms aren’t harvestable for resources. Imagine getting revenge on a Nibbler and then cooking it up for dinner – now that would be truly satisfying! Maybe a future update to the mod could add that spicy feature?

If you’re tired of being a punching bag in the deep blue and want to add a bit of combat to your Subnautica 2 experience, this mod is definitely worth checking out. You can usually find it on popular modding platforms, but remember, like many mods for games built on Unreal Engine 4, you’ll likely need to install the UE4SS mod first to get things running smoothly.

What do you guys think? Is combat a necessary part of Subnautica 2, or should it remain a purely exploration-focused game? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
