Windows 10 Users Get a Lifeline with Extended Support Until 2027
Great news for those who are still loyal to Windows 10! Microsoft has officially decided to extend the life of this beloved operating system by adding another year of Extended Security Updates. This means users can breathe easy until October 2027, avoiding the dreaded transition to a less favorable version.
Initially, Microsoft had planned to wrap up support for Windows 10 in October 2025, signaling the end of a robust OS that many of us have come to love. The decision to nudge users toward Windows 11, which has not been the most well-received, was met with skepticism.
However, a glimmer of hope emerged when Microsoft introduced the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program. For a price of $30 (approx. Rs 8,340)—or even for free if you’re fortunate—users could maintain vital security updates for an additional year. While feature updates might be a thing of the past, the ESU program ensures that your Windows 10 system remains fortified against threats like malware and ransomware.
Recent updates to the ESU page reveal that this program will now be available until October 2027, extending the previously announced support period. If you’re already enrolled in the ESU, you won’t have to worry about any extra charges to keep your system secure.
This update is especially significant considering that a substantial portion of gamers are still using Windows 10. According to the latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey, around 24% of users are still running the 64-bit version of Win10. That’s a pretty sizable audience who can breathe a bit easier now.
Many users aren’t just stubborn; they recognize that Windows 10 has its advantages over Windows 11. The latter’s more stringent hardware requirements mean that some older setups can’t even run it without some creative solutions like Rufus. When the 2026 deadline loomed, many felt the pressure to upgrade their rigs, but the rising costs of new hardware have made things a little daunting.
In light of this extended support, it’s clear that Microsoft may be realizing that pushing users into costly upgrades might not be the best strategy, especially considering their role in inflating hardware prices. So, for now, Windows 10 users can keep playing their favorite games without having to rush into another expensive upgrade just yet!
