Diablo 4 Players Frustrated by Iconic Mythic Drop Rates After Extensive Farming Efforts
The latest season of Diablo 4, titled Death Awakening, launched on June 30, bringing some exciting changes to the game’s rarest loot, now known as “Iconic” Mythics. The big news is that these Mythic Uniques now come with two guaranteed powers that enhance their unique abilities, replacing the random rolls that had players in an uproar during the Public Test Realm. However, a new issue has emerged: the drop rates for these coveted items are dismal.
In a recent video, Diablo 4 content creator wudijo shared his intense experience of farming for Iconic Mythics, specifically the El’Druin Sword of Justice, for a staggering 20 hours straight. He dedicated nearly two full days to farming Helltides without taking breaks, but ultimately walked away empty-handed.
Despite his dedication, wudijo accumulated a mountain of resources: 850 lair keys, 900 greater lair keys, and 127 superior lair keys. His farming efforts yielded over 100 Mythics, five Mythic Seals, and a whopping five billion gold, but not a single Iconic Mythic made it into his inventory. After salvaging most of the Mythics he found at the blacksmith and trading them for Resplendent Sparks to craft new items, he still came up short. He expressed his disappointment, saying, “I just don’t have that item, with all of my effort and crafting… so this is what happened here, and I am very sad.”
Wudijo acknowledged that while farming Helltides is a great way to gather regular Mythics and Mythic Seals, the current drop rates for specific Iconic Mythics are disheartening. He also noted that when aiming for a Mythic version of a Unique item that fits your build, disappointment often follows. “You might find several good Uniques, but by the time a Mythic version drops, it often ends up being less effective,” he explained.
As a case in point, he mentioned his search for a Mythic Eaglehorn bow for his Rogue build. By the time he finally got the Mythic version, it was a letdown, rolling two undesirable stats. Since players can only re-roll one of a Mythic’s powers, his Mythic Eaglehorn ended up being salvaged.
Wudijo isn’t alone in feeling frustrated. Many players have taken to forums, voicing their dissatisfaction with Iconic Mythic drop rates in season 14, with an uproar on Reddit labeling them “broken.” While there’s something magical about rare items, the recent focus on Mythic loot in Diablo 4 makes it odd to see dedicated players like wudijo struggling to obtain these items, especially given the limited three-month duration of each season. It remains to be seen how Blizzard will address this growing concern from the community.
Meanwhile, Blizzard’s leadership is currently in the dark regarding the studio’s future, as the president of the World of Warcraft and Diablo teams has indicated that players can expect updates on Microsoft’s plans for the studio soon, especially with significant job cuts looming at Xbox.
