Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Sets Sail with 2 Million Sales on Launch Day

Well, it looks like the suits at Ubisoft knew what they were doing! Many thought gamers might hesitate at the $60 (approx. Rs 16,680) price tag for a revamped 13-year-old title, but they proved us wrong. “Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced” has made quite the splash, selling over two million copies within just 24 hours of its release!

Not only did it achieve impressive sales, but it also set a new record on Steam for the highest number of concurrent players for any game in the Assassin’s Creed series, even surpassing newer entries like “Assassin’s Creed Shadows.” Ubisoft celebrated this massive achievement on social media, saying, “Dash my Buttons… Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced has already passed 2 million copies sold! Whether you’re sailing with us again, or stepping aboard the Jackdaw for the first time: THANK YOU from the bottom of ARR hearts.”

Interestingly, Ubisoft’s specific mention of two million sold copies contrasts with the one million player count they reported for “Assassin’s Creed Shadows” on its launch day. While Shadows was later noted for having the second-highest day one sales in the franchise’s history, it leaves some questions about how it stacks up against titles like “Valhalla.”

When it comes to Steam’s concurrent player numbers, “Black Flag Resynced” has easily outshined its competitors. Though it’s important to note some context here. “Valhalla” didn’t hit Steam until a while after its Epic Games Store debut due to Ubisoft’s earlier absence from the platform. Plus, “Shadows” faced backlash over its character representation, which might have impacted its performance too. And let’s not forget, “Shadows” is priced $10 (approx. Rs 2,780) higher than the nostalgic “Black Flag Resynced.”

Despite these factors, the numbers reveal something clear: the power of nostalgia is undeniable. Martin Schelling, the brand boss for Assassin’s Creed, expressed his excitement, stating, “Black Flag has always held a special place in the heart of the community, and ours. Bringing it back with Resynced was a promise to that passion for Edward’s adventures, and to the unique sense of freedom players experienced back then. Seeing two million players set sail on day one, along with the great reviews from critics, is the greatest reward we could have hoped for.”
