Princess Tiana Takes Center Stage: Disney’s Live-Action Plans Continue!
Hey PakGamers, get ready for some exciting news from the House of Mouse! It looks like our beloved Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog might be getting her very own live-action spinoff movie. How cool is that?
Reports are buzzing that Colman Domingo, a well-known name in Hollywood, is currently in discussions to co-write this new live-action adventure focused on Tiana. He’s reportedly teaming up with acclaimed playwright and director Robert O’Hara for the project. While details are still pretty scarce, the idea of seeing Tiana’s story unfold in a new, live-action format has definitely got us intrigued.
This Tiana spin-off is just the latest in Disney’s ongoing strategy of reimagining its classic animated tales for the big screen with live-action adaptations. However, it hasn’t always been smooth sailing for them lately. Despite the magic, some of their recent attempts haven’t quite hit the mark at the box office.
Take for example the upcoming live-action Moana film, which apparently had a rather slow start, bringing in around $95 (approx. Rs 26,410) million globally during its opening weekend. Similarly, the Snow White remake also faced a lukewarm reception, pulling in $87.3 (approx. Rs 24,270) million worldwide on its opening. These numbers certainly make you wonder about the direction Disney is taking, don’t they?
But hey, Disney isn’t slowing down! They’re pushing full steam ahead with even more live-action remakes in the pipeline. We’ve got a new Tangled movie in the works, with Teagan Croft set to play Rapunzel and Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider. Plus, Diego Luna from Andor has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role. Interestingly, Scarlett Johansson, who was rumored to play Mother Gothel, is no longer attached to the project.
And that’s not all! Disney has a whole slate of other live-action films coming our way, including adaptations of Bambi, Hercules, and even a spin-off movie centered around Gaston from Beauty and the Beast. Talk about ambitious!
The forthcoming Hercules film, with Joe and Anthony Russo producing, is aiming for a “modern spin” to tell a “different story” from the original. It seems like a similar approach might be in store for Domingo and O’Hara’s Tiana-focused adventure. This move to explore “different stories” within beloved universes could be exactly what Disney needs to inject fresh life into its live-action lineup.
What do you think, PakGamers? Are you excited about a live-action Tiana spin-off, or do you prefer the classic animated versions? Let us know your thoughts!
