Brace Yourselves: Nvidia GPU Prices Could Jump by Up To 30%
Get ready for some potentially tough news, fellow Pakistani gamers. Just when we thought GPU prices had settled down a bit, fresh reports are surfacing that Nvidia might be cranking up the cost of its graphics cards by a substantial margin – we’re talking anywhere from 20% to a whopping 30%!
This isn’t just a minor tweak; it’s a significant hike that could make building or upgrading your gaming rig even more challenging. The whispers from the industry suggest that Nvidia is planning to raise the prices of its GPU bundles, which include both the graphics processing unit and its accompanying memory. This move is expected to hit both GDDR6 and the newer GDDR7 memory types.
The core of the problem, as many of you might already know, is the ongoing “memory crisis.” The cost of VRAM (Video Random Access Memory) has been steadily climbing, and sourcing these crucial chips is becoming increasingly difficult. This scarcity and rising cost are now reportedly being passed on directly from Nvidia to their AIB (Add-in-Board) partners – companies like ASUS, Gigabyte, MSI, and so on.
While AIB partners aren’t strictly *forced* to reflect these increases in their retail prices, it’s highly unlikely they’ll absorb such a significant jump in their component costs. If they can sell cards at a higher price and still meet demand, they probably will, meaning we, the consumers, will bear the brunt.
Industry analysts are already painting a grim picture. For instance, projected prices for upcoming cards are eye-watering. The Chinese market’s rumored RTX 5090 D could be around $3,843 (approx. Rs 1,068,350), while the RTX 5080 might hit $1,845 (approx. Rs 512,910) – a price point that’s nearly what the RTX 5090 cost at its launch! This wouldn’t be the first time we’ve seen a price bump from Nvidia this year either, with the RTX 5090 reportedly seeing increases back in May.
It’s a tough pill to swallow, especially when you consider the broader context. We’ve seen AMD reportedly launch a 4GB RX 9050, possibly in response to memory constraints, and major memory manufacturers like SK Hynix and Samsung are reporting record profits. It seems the higher cost of memory is benefiting some, but definitely not us gamers.
With the memory crisis not expected to ease up until at least 2029, according to some forecasts, the road ahead for PC gaming hardware looks increasingly expensive.
