Major Leak Hits Spider-Man: Brand New Day Before Its Release
Spider-Man: Brand New Day has found itself in a bit of a pickle with a big leak that went viral on social media. Just as Tom Holland’s latest adventure as the iconic web-slinger hit theatres, a high-quality bootleg of the film surfaced on X (formerly Twitter) before Sony could swoop in and take it down.
According to reports, a user named Fredrick Bryan managed to post the movie online, allowing fans to catch a glimpse of its biggest twists and turns for several hours. It’s been noted that the post reached an astonishing 5.9 million accounts, racked up over 143,000 likes, and was shared more than 10,000 times before Sony acted.
While many were able to enjoy the film, it seems that some users faced interruptions, with one lamenting, “DUDE NO I WAS WATCHING THIS SPIDERMAN BRAND NEW DAY MOVIE ON TWITTER AND IT SUDDENLY STOPPED PLAYING.” Others expressed their regret over not downloading the film in time, sharing their heartbreak with crying emojis.
Despite Sony’s efforts to remove the leak, snippets of the movie that reveal major plot points continued to circulate. While some posts have been deleted, users have reported seeing significant portions of the film prior to its removal, making it a hot topic of conversation across social media.
This leak isn’t an isolated incident, as we’ve seen similar situations with other major releases. Recently, Christopher Nolan’s new film, The Odyssey, faced a similar fate when a full three-hour copy appeared online, giving fans a chance to watch it without heading to the cinema.
When approached for comment, Sony declined to provide any details about its plans regarding the leak. However, Universal, which also experienced a leak, stated that they had promptly initiated takedown actions upon learning of the unauthorized posting and emphasized their commitment to protecting their intellectual property.
As for the future of Spider-Man: Brand New Day, it’s currently in theatres, and while it opened with an impressive $72 (approx. Rs 20,020) million in box office previews, it remains to be seen how it will perform over the weekend. IGN rated the film a solid 7/10, indicating that fans still have plenty to look forward to despite the leak controversy.
