Why No Bloodborne PC? Former PlayStation Boss Is Just As Confused As We Are!
Alright, fellow Hunters of Yharnam, we’ve all been there. That deep sigh, that wistful look at our gaming rigs, and the age-old question that plagues every Bloodborne fan: “When, oh when, will this masterpiece finally grace our PCs?” Or at the very least, get a proper PS5 upgrade?
Well, it turns out we’re not alone in our confusion. None other than Shuhei Yoshida, the former head honcho of PlayStation Worldwide Studios (and now overseeing PlayStation Indies), shares our bewilderment! Speaking at Japan’s CEDEC Industry event, Yoshida-san openly admitted he’s a “huge fan” of Bloodborne, and the game’s continued absence from PC and even a dedicated PS5 version is a “complete mystery” to him.
Imagine that! A key figure who helped shape the PlayStation landscape, responsible for bringing us countless iconic titles over his nearly four-decade career, is just as baffled as the rest of us. He even reminisced about his first encounter with Demon’s Souls and Sony’s missed opportunity with Dark Souls, highlighting the impact these types of games have had.
“This game has a lot of fans all over the world, and it still doesn’t have a PS5 version,” Yoshida stated. “PlayStation’s first-party team is releasing a ton of remasters, so why don’t they release this one? There’s no PC release. I am often asked why these haven’t been released, but it’s a complete mystery. Maybe they’ll come out in the future. Maybe they won’t. Maybe they’ll make a special edition. Maybe they won’t. As a huge fan, I hope it will come out.”
Now, some of you might be thinking, “Hold on, wasn’t that his job?” And it’s a fair point! However, it’s worth remembering that Yoshida transitioned to leading PlayStation Indies in 2019, roughly four years after Bloodborne’s initial launch and well before the PlayStation 5 era kicked off. So, while he was instrumental in the PlayStation ecosystem, the decisions regarding Bloodborne’s post-2015 updates or potential ports likely fell under different teams by then.
The lack of action is truly puzzling. We’ve seen a wave of PlayStation exclusives make their way to PC, often to massive success. Yet, Bloodborne remains locked to its original platform, without even a 60fps or 4K patch for PS4 Pro, PS5, or the rumored PS5 Pro. It’s almost as if the game is being intentionally kept in a time capsule since its last expansion, The Old Hunters, back in November 2015.
While we all dream of an official, optimized PC port or a shiny PS5 upgrade, the community has, as always, found ways. For those with powerful enough gaming rigs, PlayStation 4 emulation has shown surprisingly strong results for Bloodborne, offering a glimpse of what could be. It’s a testament to the game’s enduring appeal that players are willing to go to such lengths just to experience it with better performance.
So, the mystery continues. Even a former PlayStation leader is scratching his head. But one thing is clear: the demand for Bloodborne on PC and an updated PS5 version is stronger than ever. Here’s hoping that one day, Sony and FromSoftware hear the collective prayers of fans worldwide – including us here in Pakistan – and finally give this legendary title the treatment it deserves.
