Mastering Projectiles in Beast of Reincarnation: A Gamer’s Secret Weapon
After diving into a week of intense gaming with Beast of Reincarnation, I’ve found a new appreciation for this action-packed title—even though I’m not really a fan of the whole parry mechanic. This game definitely leans heavily on parrying, but here’s the good news: you can get through battles with a little less focus on those precise dodges. Let’s talk about the protagonist, Emma, and her surprising weapon choices.
Emma kicks things off with a crossbow, and honestly, I initially thought it was just a gimmicky accessory, similar to the rifles in Bloodborne or the companion drone in Stellar Blade. Boy, was I wrong! If you put in the effort to level up the crossbow and the longbow—which you unlock about an hour into the game—you basically unlock a low-key easy mode without touching the actual easy mode option that’s available.
Upgrading your projectiles is a game-changer. Trust me, once you start focusing on them, you’ll see those health bars drop like crazy. While some bosses, especially the ones with multiple forms, might test your ammo reserves, using projectiles allows you to chip away at their health from a distance while minimizing the risks that come with close-range combat. In a game where a couple of hits can take you down, this approach feels incredibly safe.
Let’s chat about my experience tackling the first major boss in New Game +. I recorded a bit of gameplay not to show off how easy it is, but to highlight the sheer power of well-upgraded crossbow shots. And guess what? I hadn’t even touched my arrows yet! Of course, enemies can still close the gap on you if you’re not careful, so don’t think investing in projectiles means you can ignore dodging altogether.
One of the best parts? Emma has this neat entanglement gauge that allows her to glide in mid-air while raining arrows down on unsuspecting foes. It feels awesome to unleash a flurry of projectiles on enemies that can barely touch you. Plus, you can easily replenish your arrows and bolts at any checkpoint campsite, which are pretty plentiful throughout the game. By a third of the way through, you’ll be loaded up on ammo and ready for action!
If you’re looking to optimize Emma’s skill tree, start by heading to the bottom left section where you’ll find the Tracking Shot ability. This nifty upgrade makes your arrows home in on enemies. As you progress, you can unlock even cooler abilities like increasing the chance of shots not consuming ammo and the Magic Bullet skill that allows your shots to hit enemies multiple times. And let’s not forget Scatter-Shot, which splits every shot into three, creating a visually stunning display of arrows!
While I predominantly focused on upgrading Emma’s projectiles during my first run, there’s also the option to enhance each ranged weapon at workbenches and campsites, maxing them out to +11. This includes improvements to reload speed and damage. I’ve pumped resources into upgrading my acid arrows, too, boosting their effectiveness and quantity in my quiver. It might seem a bit wild to prioritize projectiles over other upgrades in typical action games, but in Beast of Reincarnation, it really pays off.
In short, I was genuinely surprised by how effective a projectile-centric playthrough can be in this game. Now, I just have to figure out how to allocate some time to upgrade that adorable dog companion, Koo, in my next playthrough!
