Cinder City Playtest: Is Your PC Ready for the Challenge?
If you’ve been keeping an eye on the upcoming title, Cinder City, you might want to buckle up because it’s creating quite the buzz. This open-world third-person shooter, set in a dystopian near-future Seoul, recently raised eyebrows when Steam mistakenly suggested that players would need a whopping 64GB of RAM to run it. While that was quickly corrected, the minimum requirement still stands at a hefty 32GB. This means that many of us might need to rethink our gaming rigs, as the latest Steam Hardware and Software Survey indicates that most players are not quite there.
PC Gamer’s Nick Evanson pointed out that either the remaining specs could also contain errors, or we’re looking at a game that needs some serious optimization work. To help you figure out if your setup can handle Cinder City, there’s a pre-alpha playtest happening from August 14-16, and you can sign up for a chance to participate right now!
However, there are a few catch points: the playtest is restricted to players in the US, participants must be 16 years or older, and everything is under a strict NDA. So, no sharing gameplay, screenshots, or streaming—keep those secrets close! If you fit the bill and are okay with the confidentiality, this is a great opportunity to experience Cinder City in action and see how it performs on your machine.
Keep in mind that this is just a pre-alpha version, and the publisher, NC, acknowledged that as they continue to optimize the game, the final system requirements could end up being lower than what’s currently listed. So, if you manage to run the playtest without issues, it’s a good bet that the full release will work smoothly too. And if it turns out to be a bit of a disaster, at least you didn’t have to pay for the experience!
Plus, even if you miss out on this testing phase or feel uncertain about it, don’t worry. NC has plans for more playtests in the future, which are expected to include a broader range of regions. Keep your eyes peeled for further updates!
