Big Walk’s First Day: Players Love It, But There’s a Voice Problem!
The co-op puzzle game Big Walk just hit the market, and it’s already making waves! With a peak of nearly 50,000 players on Steam, critics are loving it with reviews leaning towards “Very Positive.” Everyone seems to be having a blast, except for one nagging issue popping up in player feedback.
Many players have been voicing their frustrations about the in-game voice chat. Despite the game encouraging players to ditch Discord and use its own proximity chat feature, folks are finding it hard to hear each other clearly. One player noted in a review, “In a game about walking and talking, my friends’ voices were barely audible at MAX VOLUME!”
This sentiment was echoed by others who pointed out that the game’s audio settings need some serious tweaking. “The ambient sounds are so loud that all I hear are whispers from my friends, even when we’re right next to each other,” another player lamented, highlighting the struggle to balance the game’s soundscape.
During my own gameplay with friends, I quickly realized how challenging it was to pick up on voice chat while the game’s rich sound effects, like crashing waves, filled the background. It’s a bit of a challenge when you have to stand almost shoulder-to-shoulder just to hear each other talk, unless you’ve got walkie-talkies in hand. This design choice seems intentional, as it encourages innovative ways to solve puzzles with friends just out of earshot.
Thankfully, the developers at House House are aware of the issue and have acknowledged player concerns. They issued an apology on Steam, stating, “We know that some players are struggling with quiet voice levels. Sorry about this!” They’re actively working on a solution to boost those voice levels, although it’s still unclear whether they’ll introduce multiple audio sliders or simply crank up the voice volume.
For those who can’t wait for the official fix, there’s already a mod available on GitHub that reportedly adds a separate voice volume slider, allowing you to increase it to a whopping 200%. Just be sure to check it out at your own risk!
