Sega’s Shadow the Hedgehog Motorcycle Up for Charity Auction!
Sega is stepping up in a big way by auctioning off a real-life motorcycle inspired by Shadow the Hedgehog, and the best part? The money raised will go to charity! This iconic bike, dubbed the Dark Rider, is hitting the auction block to support a fantastic cause.
Shadow the Hedgehog made quite the splash in the recent Sonic 3 movie, taking on Sonic, Knuckles, and Tails in a thrilling adventure that had fans buzzing. To celebrate Shadow’s debut, Sega kicked off the “2024 Fearless: Year of Shadow” campaign, which included creating this custom motorcycle designed specifically for the character. It even made appearances at events like Gamescom to promote the film!
This eye-catching bike was crafted by Bourget’s Bike Works in partnership with Sega, Oil Sweat & Gears, and Atmospherics SFX. While it looks stunning with Shadow’s signature red and black color scheme, it’s important to note that this isn’t the same motorcycle from the movie. Instead, it features a powerful 1,750cc S&S Super Stock engine and an Ultimate six-speed gearbox, though it’s not actually functional at the moment—its fuel tank is just a foam prop!
The auction is set to take place on October 10-11, 2026, during The Autumn Stafford Sale. All proceeds will benefit the Luca Guintoli Foundation, a nonprofit established by Sylvain Guintoli, the celebrated French World Superbike Champion. The foundation honors Sylvain’s son, Luca, who sadly passed away from cancer last year at just six years old. It aims to provide support and resources to children facing autism or cancer in England and Wales.
After its promotional run, Sega decided to donate the motorcycle to the Luca Guintoli Foundation. According to Bonhams, this is a rare opportunity for collectors to acquire a piece of Sega’s history while supporting a noble cause. Sega has been promoting the auction on its social media, sharing interviews with Guintoli and Aaron Kirby, their Senior Partnerships Manager.
In an interview, Guintoli expressed hope for the foundation, saying, “We wanted to start the foundation in Luca’s name to do something positive, and Sega was super helpful.” Kirby added, “It was a bit of a mad idea to auction off the bike, but the fact that it can raise money for such a good cause is fantastic.”
This isn’t the first collaboration between Guintoli and Sonic for a charitable effort; earlier this year, he made headlines by completing the London Marathon in a racing suit featuring Sonic, breaking records in the process.
