Bart Simpson’s Voice Hints at a Possible End for The Simpsons at Season 40

According to Nancy Cartwright, the voice behind Bart Simpson, The Simpsons might be nearing its final chapters, potentially wrapping up with Season 40. During a recent chat on the Inside of You podcast with Michael Rosenbaum, she shared her thoughts on the show’s longevity.

When asked how much longer she thinks the series will run, she confidently replied, “40.” She clarified that she firmly believes it will conclude after that season. When Rosenbaum pressed her for reassurance, she replied, “That’s my opinion,” leaving little room for doubt.

The Simpsons has been a staple of pop culture for nearly four decades, having first graced our screens in 1989 thanks to creator Matt Groening. The series has spawned not only an array of merchandise but also movies and video games, notably The Simpsons: Hit & Run and The Simpsons Movie in 2007.

Last year, Fox announced that they’d keep the show running through Season 40, which is set to premiere its 38th season soon. Despite the upcoming milestone, Cartwright seems to think the end might be on the horizon. However, she’s open to continuing as long as the beloved cast and crew are still around. “Is everybody still alive?” she quipped in a hypothetical scenario, to which Rosenbaum assured her they would be. “Yeah, we’ll keep going then,” she concluded.

As it stands, Cartwright is ready to stick with The Simpsons wherever it goes, at least until Season 40 arrives, which is expected in 2028. While showrunner Matt Selman has stated that the series won’t follow traditional TV finale conventions, fans can expect a memorable send-off. Interestingly, The Simpsons Movie 2 is already in the works with a planned release date of July 23, 2027.
