Marvel Tokon PC Launch Hits a Wall: Even Max Dood Throws in the Towel!
Okay, gamers, we’ve got some unfortunate news coming out of the fighting game scene. The highly anticipated PC launch of Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls has been, to put it mildly, an absolute mess. So much so that even the legendary FGC content creator, Maximilian Dood, couldn’t take it anymore and dramatically uninstalled the game live on stream!
This is a serious red flag for both publisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Arc System Works. Max Dood, known for his deep dives and passionate support for fighting games, spent just two days with the 4v4 superhero tag fighter on PC before deciding enough was enough. He minced no words, calling the PC port “really terrible” and “un-fun” due to constant stutters and performance issues.
“This is serious, guys. I just can’t play this anymore,” he told his viewers during a recent livestream. “It’s making me like the game significantly less. The game is un-fun when we have to deal with all this. It’s un-fun. It’s fun coming up with solutions and stuff like that to issues, to combat, but you can’t do anything. You just have to watch it stutter like crazy.”
While Marvel Tokon launched for both PC and PlayStation 5 last week, it seems only PC players are stuck in this nightmare. PS5 users appear to be having a smooth experience, but the PC community has been vocal about their frustrations. Just head over to the game’s Steam page, and you’ll see the damage. What started as a “Mixed” rating with 44% positive reviews quickly plummeted. Now, it’s sitting at a dismal 41% positive overall, and a “Mostly Negative” 39% for English reviews specifically.
Maximilian Dood’s very public struggle and subsequent uninstallation have brought these PC woes to the forefront. As the launch weekend wrapped up with no immediate fixes, it’s clear Arc System Works has a massive task ahead to win back the PC player base.
“I’ve pretty much come to the conclusion I have to, probably, abandon the PC version,” Max Dood stated before navigating to his Steam library and hitting that uninstall button. “The next time we stream, I’m going to exclusively be playing the PlayStation 5 version – that’s it. It’s too frustrating.”
He also highlighted another major headache: the lack of cross-progression. This means he’ll have to unlock everything all over again on his PS5, a bitter pill to swallow for any dedicated player. “It’s too frustrating running a gambit of this even working,” he added, contrasting it with the reliable PlayStation version.
Indeed, Max Dood later confirmed the PS5 version works perfectly, even playing smoothly with 3-bar connections and 100+ ms ping. So, for now, it seems console players are enjoying the game as intended. The big question remains: how long will it take Arc System Works to patch up the PC version, and will it be enough to bring back the players who’ve already moved on?
