GTA 6 Leaks? Don’t Sweat It, Says Former Rockstar Dev!

Hey PakGamers! If you’ve been following the gaming world, you know the internet has been absolutely buzzing with news about the massive Grand Theft Auto VI leaks. Gameplay footage, development details, and all sorts of snippets have been making rounds, sending the community into a frenzy. It certainly felt like a huge blow for Rockstar Games, right?

Well, hold on to your controllers, because a seasoned veteran who used to be a lead developer at Rockstar Games himself has a surprisingly chill take on the whole situation. Obbe Vermeij, who served as a technical director on iconic titles like Grand Theft Auto IV, believes these leaks are actually a “nothing burger.” Yes, you read that right – he thinks it’s no big deal!

Vermeij took to social media to calm everyone down, explaining his perspective. He pointed out that Rockstar has a history of keeping its big projects under tight wraps for much longer than other publishers. This strategy creates immense hype and mystery, which is a key part of their marketing. According to him, all that’s happened is some early footage slipped out. If Rockstar had already launched a full marketing campaign with official gameplay trailers, these leaks wouldn’t be revealing anything groundbreaking.

But here’s his main argument: “90% of future players don’t spend their time on the internet looking for video snippets.” He believes most gamers simply don’t have the time or the desire to spoil the experience for themselves. They’ll just wait for the finished product. He imagines the development teams are probably a bit annoyed, but nothing more serious than that.

To put things in perspective, Vermeij even referenced the infamous “Hot Coffee” scandal from GTA San Andreas, a much bigger headache for Rockstar management back in the day. He clearly states that the current GTA 6 leaks are far less significant. He’s incredibly optimistic about the game’s future, predicting it will be phenomenal and sell for the next 15 years, calling the leaks a mere “tiny blip” on its journey.

Now, we know a hacker known as “Cyberleek” has been behind these leaks, reportedly to promote a crypto scheme and pressure Rockstar over digital rights. And while Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, is definitely taking the situation seriously, Vermeij’s insider perspective offers a different viewpoint.

There was also a claim by Cyberleek that they had a playable build of the game. However, Vermeij quickly dismissed concerns about this, explaining that such a build would most likely only run on a specialized development kit. These kits have far more memory and processing power than a retail PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X, meaning there probably isn’t a version of the game that could run on standard home consoles right now.

In the broader industry chatter, even the head of Gamescom has previously hailed GTA 6 and Red Dead Redemption 2 as the “north stars of gaming.” While these titles are undeniably massive, it’s also true that most gamers aren’t interested in just one game forever. But with Vermeij’s confidence, it seems GTA 6 is still set to dominate for a very long time, regardless of a few early peeks.
