Danganronpa 2×2 Recommends 32GB of RAM and an RTX 4070 — Yes, Really

PC system requirements continue to get heavier, but the recommended specs for Danganronpa 2×2 might be one of the stranger examples yet.

The upcoming remake of the visual novel, which traces its roots back to a game originally released on the PSP, asks PC players to have 32GB of RAM for the recommended experience.

The minimum requirement is considerably more reasonable at 8GB of RAM, but things take a surprising jump when you look at the recommended hardware. Players are being asked to have 32GB of memory alongside an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070.

For a visually demanding modern open-world game, those specifications might not raise many eyebrows. For Danganronpa, however, they look almost comical.

The series is primarily built around visual-novel gameplay, featuring 2D character artwork, dialogue, relatively simple environments and courtroom sequences. While a modern remake can obviously feature higher-resolution assets, improved effects, animations and other graphical upgrades, an RTX 4070 and 32GB of RAM still seem remarkably demanding for this type of game.

It becomes even more noticeable when you remember where the game came from. The original Danganronpa 2 was designed to run on Sony’s PSP, a handheld released all the way back in 2004 with hardware that is microscopic compared with today’s gaming PCs.

Of course, the new version isn’t simply running the original PSP assets, and recommended specifications don’t necessarily represent what is strictly required to enjoy the game. The fact that the minimum memory requirement sits at just 8GB suggests plenty of PC players should still be able to run it without owning a high-end machine.

Still, seeing 32GB of RAM and an RTX 4070 recommended for a Danganronpa game is certainly a sign of how much PC requirements have changed.

With DDR5 memory prices becoming another concern for PC builders, the specs have also provided plenty of ammunition for jokes about needing an expensive gaming rig just to experience dialogue, murder mysteries and Monokuma in ultra quality.

At this rate, solving the murder might be easier than figuring out why Danganronpa needs 32GB of RAM.
