“I Feel Like No One Will Ever Find It”: Stardew Valley’s Creator Says a Major Secret Is Still Hidden After 10 Years

Even after a decade of obsessive fans, wiki deep dives, and relentless datamining, Stardew Valley is still holding onto at least one secret—and its creator isn’t convinced anyone will ever uncover it.

In a recent interview with IGN celebrating the farming sim’s 10-year anniversary, creator Eric Barone (ConcernedApe) revealed that there’s still a mystery lurking somewhere in Pelican Town that no player has managed to crack.

“There’s still a secret that no one has ever found,” Barone said. “I don’t think they ever will.”

That’s a bold claim for a game that’s been dissected for thousands of hours by one of the most dedicated communities in gaming. Yet according to Barone, this particular secret was designed specifically to avoid the usual methods players use to uncover hidden content.

A Secret That Isn’t Even True Anymore

What makes the mystery even stranger is what the secret actually contains. Barone explained that it’s essentially a hidden message—one that once hinted at something real, but no longer does.

“It was a secret message that was basically announcing something,” he said. “But I actually shifted gears, and that thing isn’t even true anymore. Still, the message is in the game.”

Barone stopped short of revealing what that “something” was, clearly debating whether he should say more before deciding against it. The result is a tease that’s somehow even more frustrating—and intriguing—than a traditional Easter egg.

Why Dataminers Haven’t Found It

Given Stardew Valley’s history of being thoroughly decompiled and examined, the obvious question is: how has this gone undiscovered for so long?

Barone’s answer is simple: it can’t be datamined.

“If you hide something in the code, it’s going to be found,” he explained. “People decompile the code and look at everything. But if you hide something in the art—if it’s a secret message hidden in the artwork somehow—then people can’t really discover that as easily. They have to see it.”

That single comment is likely enough to send the community into a frenzy, scrutinizing every texture, sprite, and background asset in the game with fresh paranoia.

Will Anyone Ever Find It?

Despite clearly wanting someone to uncover the mystery, Barone remains skeptical that it will ever happen.

“I feel like no one will ever find it,” he said. “But I hope someone does. It’d be interesting.”

Ten years on, Stardew Valley continues to prove that it’s more than just a cozy farming sim—it’s a game still capable of surprising even its most devoted players. Whether this hidden message is ever discovered or remains a permanent ghost in the artwork, it’s a fitting reminder of how much intentional mystery went into the game’s creation.

And somewhere in Pelican Town, apparently, a secret is still waiting.
